This ZIP file contains sample images from this issue's article on using telescopes as telephoto lenses. The images were captured over a period of several weeks, so weather conditions varied from batch to batch. The results nevertheless provide a good impression of the performance of the lenses and telescopes we tested.

Pro photographer Bert Stephani is a master of using conventional lights in innovative ways. In the course of this workshop he uses various light sources, from softboxes to LEDs, and shows how simple it can be to apply them on a model shoot.

Bert Stephani demonstrates how to turn a bare strobe light into a softbox with the help of his surroundings. He uses the term 'marinading' light to describe how light and its surroundings affect each other. Flashes can be used as key or fill lights, depending on the power setting you use, and Stephani concludes his workshop by showing you how to combine a strobe with a diffused speedlight.

This video demonstrates the flicker effects that make capturing sharp images at long focal lengths so tricky. The severity of the effect depends on the subject distance, the focal length of the lens/telescope and the prevailing weather conditions. The video was captured using a 900mm refracting telescope.
